nBorn on 24 August 1947, Brazilian lyricist and novelist Paulo Coelho is best known for his novel The Alchemist. Even at a young age, Paulo always knew that he was meant to become a writer. In fact, when a young Paulo told his mother about his wish to become a writer and expressed his unwillingness to follow a traditional path, his parents committed him to a mental institution. But, that didn’t stop Paulo Coelho, and he went on to write best-selling novels, such as The Winner Stands Alone, The Devil and Miss Prym and The Witch of Portobello, among others.
